The Dyslexia Support Pilot Project
The Dyslexia Support Pilot Project began its life in September 2005, through the efforts of West Clare Dyslexia Support Group and Kilrush Family Resource Centre. West Clare Dyslexia Support Group is made up of parents whose children are dyslexic, and other interested people such as teachers.
Frustrated by the lack of awareness and knowledge about dyslexia they formed a support group through which they could share their difficulties, ideas, knowledge etc. This led to them approaching Kilrush Family Resource Centre in an effort to find some funding for an affordable tutoring service for dyslexic children.
As a result of this collaboration the Dyslexia Support Pilot Project was born and has now been running very successfully for two years.

Some facts about dyslexia:
Around 10% (1 in 10) people have dyslexic tendencies, with about 4% severe and 6% mild to moderate problems.
Disability discrimination legislation in the UK includes dyslexia, and employers have a responsibility to make reasonable allowances for all employees with this specific learning disability. Dyslexia is a difference not a disease or an illness. Dyslexia affects boys and girls, women and men, mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts and uncles – in fact dyslexia may be inherited from a close relative.
